** What do I need at the first rehearsal?
  1. Pencil, always. Just always have one.
  2. Water
  3. Earplugs
  4. Close-toed shoes.  Wear a good pair of sneakers, NOT sandals.
  5. The "Warm Ups" and "Stand Grooves" music packets. (found below)

Audition Information

All auditioning will demonstrate their knowledge of basic drumming technique, rudiments, and music reading.
Prepare the following:
  1. The snare drum part for Timing '06.
  2. The snare drum part for Spanks.
  3. Measures 1-16 of Ichabod Thump on your instrument of choice.
  4. In addition to these excerpts, there will be some sight reading/rudiments.
(This music is found in the "Warm Ups" and "Cadences" download under the "2017 Music Packets" section of this webpage.)

Veterans will audition first.  After all the vets, those remaining will play individually.  When you're done with your audition you're free to go.  Please return in time to begin the afternoon rehearsal.

NOTE: At Washburn University, our snares played matched grip.

2017 Music Packets

Below you will find three sections of music.  Please download and print the first two sections immediately.  Everyone will need the Warm Ups and Stand Grooves at our first rehearsal on August 11th.  The Cadences will be needed on day two, August 12th.  (Since you won't know your instrument placement until after auditions, you may choose to wait and print out the cadence section after auditions.)

This is your textbook for this class.  Please keep it neatly in a three-ring-binder.  You're responsible for having your music and a pencil at each rehearsal throughout the semester.

Keep in mind that this is all DRUMLINE ONLY music.  You will have more notes to learn when you get your band music at full band camp.  Get ready-we memorize everything!
