Video Service
I would prefer to use Zoom for online lessons. Please download the app and create an account if you don't already have it. It's free and offers us many tools that are far superior to other video services such as FaceTime. I'm still learning about the features every day, but so far I'm very pleased. I'll send you a "Zoom Meeting" invite prior to your lesson time.

Some thoughts:
  • If possible, please find a focused private space during our weekly 30 minute lesson.  Try to avoid distractions from siblings, pets, video games, other tech, etc.
  • Place your device (phone, tablet, computer, etc) on a solid surface located such that I can see the instrument and student from the waste up. You'll find that the camera needs to be further away than you might think.  Typically, the camera being even or higher than the student will work out the best.  It's hard to see if the camera is down low shooting upwards.
  • Let's take instrumentation case by case, but my initial thoughts are teaching primarily on snare pads, *maybe* snare, *maybe* bell kits, and *maybe* drumset (depending on audio quality).  We will grow together in our abilities to communicate and perform percussion over video chat.
  • IF POSSIBLE, please have a metronome on hand. I can use my metronome to demonstrate something for you to listen to.  Once you are ready to play though, it will work best if you have your own metronome on your end of the video stream.
  • Note some limitations: counting together, playing together, play-along tracks via shared headphones will not be possible due to video chat lag time.
  • Note cool perks: JAMMIES and SLIPPERS!
  • Let's have fun!  We are going to lose connection, phones will fall over, my rambunctious son will certainly crash in on a lesson or two, I might turn on my Memoji POOP face if you're playing is stinky, we are going to have to learn to take turns talking and pause to hear a response.... it's going to be crazy! And you know what? That's cool. Let's have a good time, get some learning done, and make the best of this situation we find ourselves in!
